The Eastman House Academy Awards Party
The 15th Annual Academy Awards Party at the George Eastman House was an experience to be had. The party committee paid attention to every detail making sure this would be a magical evening for its attendees. You can go to a number of sources to get all of the nitty gritty details about the silent auction items, what food was served and the amazing celebrity experience that Diane won. What is missing from those encounters is how awesome the people involved are.
The planning committee was a group of 15+ young professionals with a contagious energy and creative ambition. The brainstorming sessions around planning the now infamous Plink-Oh game and discussing the uniquely Rochester auction items the team was able to secure was entertainment enough, but being a part of the decorations team was a welcome change for my creative outlet. The ideas were original, beyond creative, and executed with perfection from the hand-made masks and Best Picture Nominee scores in the cafe to the reel ribbons that topped the center pieces for the Red Carpet Experience. I was thrilled to be involved and proud to have been part of such a successful team. Check out pics of the decorations being made at www.Facebook.com/A3Design
The attendees were out for a good time and embraced the celebrity treatment. Women were dressed to the nines with sparkles and sequins from head to toe. The heels were tall and the make-up was thick. Some dressed as characters from their favorite nominated film and the black swan make-up was almost an epidemic in the crowd of 700+. I relish in watching the variety of personalities and styles of dress. I am a sucker for accessories and watch for big bold cocktail rings, dramatic dangles and cool cufflinks (which there were plenty of). Kudos to Rochester for style and eccentricity!
The event team for the evening was amazing; which makes all the difference. From the Swan Lake bar tenders to the Metro Mix Lounge to the George Eastman House staff members around every corner to answer questions or direct you through the mansion… everyone was amazing. They work to make every attendee feel like a celebrity for the evening. Interviews, paparazzi, photos in front of the logo wall on the Red Carpet and with an Oscar statuette… games like the wine pull, Plink-Oh, and best picture raffle… even the coat check… it was the people working this party that made the experience as wonderful as it was.
And for what? All of this in honor of the father of film, George Eastman himself. Without him there would be no movies, no theater experience as we know it today. How appropriate to celebrate in his house at an extravagant party with all of his friends.I encourage everyone with a love for film, parties : ), and/or Rochester to experience the Oscar Party at the George Eastman House sometime in their life. I am already looking forward to next year!
